Closer: a review
This movie gives a new meaning to “cinema noir”, specially to pathetic romantics like me.
Brutality in relationships and the hollowness of people form the theme of this movie. The closer the characters get, the greater is their ability to brutalize. The scary part is its all so real that you can almost taste the tears that don’t fall, salty and repelling. Natalie Portman is brilliant , shadowing Julia Roberts. Clive Owen needs watching as viciousness personified. What struck me though that the men seemed to view their relationships as physical only, and yet were affected by the emotional distance. Didn’t know what to think of it though., maybe men can clarify.
Must see though, only if for sadism…
